Underslab Heat Loss Replacement (“Slab Heating”)
In many commercial buildings, parking garages are located directly beneath the building. Since parking garages are rarely heated, the first heated floor above a parking garage is subject to additional heat loss. To offset these losses, heating cable can be applied to the underside slab of the floor then insulated with rigid foam or fiberglass sheets. Chromalox offers a wide selection of products for this application:
- CPR Heating Cable
- EL Series Connection Accessories
- WeatherTrace and IntelliTrace Controls with Monitoring and Power Distribution
Use of Heat Trace in the Application:
Contact your HTS Sales Engineer at sales@heattracingsales.com or 410-795-2223 with the following information for a detailed heat loss calculation and product selection:
- Please note that National Electric Code requires ground fault protection (GFEP) for all heat tracing.
Important Design Notes/Best Practices:
- Space cables on 8” to 16” centers depending on the total wattage required.
- Use a safety factor of at least 30%. Slab heating is highly variable.
- Please note that National Electric Code requires ground fault protection (GFEP) for all heat tracing.
